The Basic Spiritist Works

The Spiritist Codification

Allan Kardec

The set of five basic works of the Spiritist Codification were the result of the life work of Allan Kardec, the pen-name of Prof.
Hyppolyte Léon Denizard Rivail, who organized them under the inspiration and coordination of a group Superior Spirits under the leadership of Lord Jesus. If our reader wishes to know better the life and works of Allan Kardec please read his biography by Anne Blackwell.

The content of each work can be resumed as below:

The Spirits' Book covers the fundamentals of the Spiritst Doctrine concerning the nature of Spirits, their manifestations and how they relate to men; moral laws, present and future life and the destiny of humankind. It's both an introduction to the other works and a summary of them, which, on their turn, can each be seen as an unfolding of one of the issues it covers;

The Mediums' Book
covers the teachings of the Spirits on the various kinds of manifestations, the means of communication with the invisible world, the development of mediumship, the difficulties and embarrassments that one can face during Spiritst practice;

The Gospel According to Spiritism explains the moral teachings of Lord Jesus, showing how they are in accordance to Spiritism and how they can be applied to the many aspects of life;

Heaven and Hell examines and compares how doctrines explain the passage from the physical to the spiritual life, future penalty or reward, angels and devils, eternal condemnation, etc.... Many examples are given of the real situation of the soul before and after physical death;

Genesis:
examines theories about Earth's emergence and evolution and scriptural texts on the matter.

As our visitor can see above the works were published along 11 years. The first time one reads them, therefore, one should read them in publishing sequence, since each of them is necessary for the correct understanding of the following one. After being acquainted to the complete Codification one no longer needs keeping such caution. On the contrary, the full set of works turns itself into a complete research source to be studied whenever the experienced Spiritist feels a doubt of any nature about the universe, life and their purpose.
